How busy is it at this time of year (July/August)? Can you get away from crowds?

Because of the music festivals it can get very busy in town (so book ahead), giving it a genuinely fun atmosphere. Thanks to various cable cars and chairlifts it's possible to be taken up into the mountains where the higher and longer trails do take you away from the busyness.
