Because of the music festivals it can get very busy in town (so book ahead), giving it a genuinely fun atmosphere. Thanks to various cable cars and chairlifts it's possible to be taken up into the mountains where the higher and longer trails do take you away from the busyness.

Let me know if you have any questions about my Verbier trip, on which I'll be:

• Staying in a 100-year-old mountain cabin

• Attending a classical music concert

• Hiking to a remote mountain lake to listen to a Peter Doherty gig

Got very lucky with the weather and enjoyed a sunny wild camp on the sandy shores of Loch A'an deep in Scotland's Cairngorm Mountains
